Introduction of 10G BIDI SFP+ ZR Industrial Optical Module
With the rapid advancement of the 5G bearer network process, the demand for industrial-grade optical modules is increasing. The introduction of the 10G BiDi SFP+ ZR industrial module has enabled a new optical module solution for the construction of long-distance metropolitan area networks. Next ETU-LINK will briefly introduce the 10G BiDi SFP+ ZR industrial optical module.
The 10G BiDi SFP+ ZR industrial optical module of ETU-LINK adopts hot-swappable SFP+ package, built-in EML transmitter and APD receiver, and the maximum rate is up to 11.1Gbps. ZR stands for Ze best Range, which means "the longest distance". The 10G BiDi SFP+ ZR industrial optical module can be used with a simplex LC single-mode OS2 optical fiber patch cord for transmission distances of up to ZR. The main difference between the BiDi optical module and the traditional dual-fiber bidirectional optical module is that the BiDi optical module is equipped with a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) coupler, which converges and separates the data transmitted on a fiber according to the wavelength.
In order to work efficiently, BiDi optical modules must be used in pairs. The working wavelength of 10G BiDi SFP+ ZR industrial optical module is 1550 / 1490nm (one receiving and one transmitting). By tuning the duplexer to match the expected wavelength of transmitter and receiver, the bidirectional transmission of data is realized.
The industrial temperature range is -40℃-85℃, and the 10G BiDi SFP+ ZR industrial optical module can adapt to various complex outdoor temperature conditions.
The BiDi optical module reduces the cost of optical fiber cabling infrastructure and the number of ports on the optical fiber patch cord panel, which is a good solution for users with insufficient optical fiber resources. In terms of price, although the price of BiDi optical modules (WDM optical modules) is higher than that of traditional dual-fiber bidirectional optical modules, the number of optical fibers used is half that of traditional dual-fiber bidirectional optical modules. For many networks, The cost savings of fewer optical fibers far exceeds the purchase amount of dual-fiber bidirectional optical modules.
In short, single-fiber bidirectional BiDi optical modules are more expensive than dual-fiber bidirectional optical modules. However, considering the wiring cost of ultra-long distances, the wiring cost of single-fiber optical modules is half that of dual-fiber optical modules. Therefore, the total cost of using 10G BiDi SFP+ ZR industrial-grade optical modules is lower than that of dual-fiber 10G SFP+ ZR.
