Development trend of optical module and multimode fiber in data center
With the rapid development of big data, cloud computing, Internet of things and mobile Internet, banks, taxation, hospitals, e-commerce, and other industries all rely on the support of data centers. The flow of data centers is increasing day by day. In the future, data centers must be the data warehouse and heart of social information systems in the future. In order to meet the huge demand of data transmission, more and more enterprises choose to build multiple data centers. The following easy Tianguang communication to you under the current use of more popular optical modules and multimode fiber.
As an important component of optical fiber communication, optical module is used to transmit and receive optical signals. Through market exploration, ETU-Link finds that the most popular optical modules are 25G, 40G and 100G, which are mainly used in the core switches of data centers. The switches with 40G ports form 40G Ethernet by matching with QSFP+ optical modules. From the port on the convergence layer switch to the core layer core routing switch, 100G port is used. The 100G QSFP28 optical module has won the favor of the market due to its low power consumption, small size and less fiber usage. It is widely used in the collocation scheme of 100G Ethernet switch optical module.
Multi mode fiber is widely used in the interconnection of network element equipment in data center. Although multimode fiber is more expensive than single-mode fiber, and the transmission bandwidth is not as high as that of single-mode fiber, the comprehensive cost of indoor multi-mode optical fiber communication system is lower than that of single-mode optical fiber communication system due to the low price of multi-mode fiber transceiver. There are OM1 and OM2 in multimode fiber at first, then OM3 and OM4 appear after optimized by VCSEL laser. Since the distance between devices in medium and large data centers is generally within 500M, it is usually equipped with multi-mode OM3 and OM4 optical fibers.
In recent years, multimode fiber has been upgraded to OM5. OM5 has four channels, which extends the wavelength range supported by OM3 and OM4 fibers horizontally, and increases the bandwidth requirement at 953nm wavelength, which increases the transmission capacity of OM5 by four times. The OM5 fiber can not only be compatible with the traditional parallel optical module, but also support the optical module of duplex transmission. Therefore, from the perspective of overall investment cost, return on investment and risk control of data center, OM5 fiber will be the preferred transmission medium for optical interconnection of new data center in the future.
As a manufacturer of optical modules, high-speed cables, media converter and other communication equipment manufacturers, ETU-Link has provided compatible optical modules of Huawei, Cisco, H3C and other brands of switches for operators, integrators and equipment manufacturers for many years, and has given more cost-effective optical modules solutions.
