Where are MPO fiber patch cords mainly used?

. Introduction to MPO Patch cord


The MPO fiber optic patch cord is composed of a hot-swappable MPO connector and a multi-mode/single-mode fiber optic cable. The MPO optical fiber connector includes optical fiber, sheath, coupling components, metal ring, pin, dust cap, etc., and the pin part is divided into two forms: male and female. The male connector has two PIN pins, while the female connector does not. MPO fiber patch cords have the characteristics of low insertion loss, good interchangeability and pluggability, and a large number of fiber cores. They are widely used in fiber wiring scenarios that require high-density integration.



. Application of MPO patch cord


MPO patch cords can be used in optical fiber communication systems, cable television networks, telecommunications networks, local area networks, wide area networks, wiring in communication base stations, wiring in distribution boxes, and optical link interconnection in optical active equipment. MPO patch cords are generally used with high-speed optical modules above 40G. Because 40G QSFP+ SR4, eSR4, PSM4 optical modules and 100G QSFP28 SR4, PSM4 and other optical modules all use 4 transmit channels and 4 receive channels in parallel. Therefore, at least an 8-core fiber patch cord is required to connect the optical link.



40G QSFP+ SR4 and 40G QSFP+ PSM4 usually use a 12-core MPO interface, because in the production process of QSFP+ optical modules, the channel specifications are consistent, with channel 1 to channel 12, channel 2 to channel 11, and channel 3 to channel 10, Channel 4 and channel 9 form four groups of receiving and sending channels. Furthermore, the middle four channels are not used, and each group of receiving and sending channels carry out 10G transmission, which together can just complete 40G transmission.




In addition to 40G/100G optical modules, 12-core MPO patch cords can also be used for 100G CFP4 SR4 optical modules, while 24-core MPO patch cords are generally used on 100G CFP2 SR10 and 100G CFP SR10 optical modules.


三、 the classification of MPO patch cords


There are two main categories of MPO patch cords. The first is divided into MPO backbone fiber patch cords and MPO branch fiber patch cords according to the connector type; the second classification is divided into 8 cores, 12 cores, 24 cores, and 24 cores according to the number of fiber cores. 36 cores, 48 cores and 72 cores, but currently the most commonly used are 12 cores and 24 cores.


四、 The polarity classification of MPO fiber optic patch cords


1. Type A (straight-through type): The cores at both ends of the patch cord are arranged in the same position, that is, 1 at one end corresponds to 1 at the other end, and 12 at one end corresponds to 12 at the other end. The direction of the Key at both ends is opposite, and key up corresponds to key down.


2.Type B (staggered type): The arrangement of the cores at both ends of the patch cord is opposite, that is, 1 at one end corresponds to 12 at the other end, and 12 at one end corresponds to 1 at the other end. The direction of the keys at both ends is the same, that is, key up corresponds to key up, and key down corresponds to key down.


3. Type C (Paired Interleaved Type): Type C MPO patch cord is a pair of adjacent cores crossed, that is, the core 1 at one end corresponds to the 2 at the other end, and the core 12 at one end is 11 at the other end. . The direction of the Key keys at both ends is also opposite, and key up corresponds to key down.
